Synopsis
Kava, from its Latin name “Piper Methysticum”, is a beverage from Vanuatu that is well known to New Caledonians. Before it was consumed as an anti-stress or alternative to alcohol, kava was used for customary exchanges. Today, the beverage is still used in large-scale ceremonies by the people of Vanuatu and Wallis, but it is also consumed in a convivial way by New Caledonians and tourists.
