Synopsis
A young tribal chief and fervent Christian, Roch Pidjot fights against the Code de l’Indigénat and dreams of harmony between Europeans and Kanaks.
Elected deputy of the Republic, he recalls the massacres of colonization and calls for the restitution of stolen land, but remains attached to France. An advocate of dialogue, he eventually declared himself in favor of independence. At the age of 80, he handed over to the younger generation, including Jean Marie Tjibaou, who was assassinated two years later.
