Cemel, life together

Synopsis

In the heart of the tribe of Jozip, on the island of Lifou, a small kindergarten welcomes a group children from 3 to 6 years old in a single class. Here, the values of the French education system immerse themselves in drehu culture (the language of the island). As the days go by, the camera becomes attached to this little group in constant evolution. With the teacher and with each other, the children discover the basics of collective education: life together (cemel en drehu). Between making the social bond and imitation of the adult world, a story full of contrasts is emerging: in turn soft and brutal, poetic and funny, as intense as childhood. A story full of hope too; at a time when the New Caledonia must reinvent the foundations of its own CEMEL.
