Vanuatu – New caledonia

Synopsis

Marcel Meltherorong – aka Mars Melto – grew up in New Caledonia. As an adult, he discovered his parents’ country, Vanuatu, independent since 1980, and settled there. As his native archipelago prepares to vote in a referendum on its future, Mars probes the hearts and minds of Caledonians. He listens to their hopes and fears, their fears of becoming poor “like Vanuatu”. But the Vanuatu Mars knows is far from this caricature: it’s a country that has chosen happiness and freedom over wealth.
